NTK:
The largest maker of Oxygen Sensors in the world
Everyone
agrees that the amount of pollutants produced by vehicle engines
should be reduced. To stimulate this, officials in many countries
have progressively passed laws that are increasingly strict on emissions.
The
three-way catalytic converter is the most commonly used method among
car makers to reduce emissions.This
system makes the major pollutants in exhaust gas less toxic. But
this system works efficiently only when the air-fuel mixture is
maintained within narrow range near the lambda point. This is where the Lambda Sensor
comes into play.
The
Lambda Sensor detects the composition of oxigen in the exhaust gas and informs the ECU (Electronic Control Unit) about the vehicle's air-fuel mixture. The ECU uses this information to decide if it is necessary change the air-fuel mixture to reach an ideal condition (see the picture). This is known as closed-loop
control, because the Lambda Sensor's exit signal is redispatched to ECU ensuring that the air-fuel mixture is always appropriate
and that the catalytic converter is functioning properly, reducing in consequence the emission of pollutants. It also
guarantees good performance.
The NTK oxygen sensors are tested one by one to guarantee the highest levels of quality.
